She has been a music teacher in the La Habra City School District since 1993. Her efforts in teaching music in La Habra earned her the La Habra Masonic Lodge Outstanding Educator Award in 2000, again in 2003 for organizing the Annual La Habra Middle School Chorus Invitational, and in 2010 for her "Get La Habra Singing Project". The Orange County Teacher’s Federal Credit Union honored her with the Educator’s First Award in 2004, and she was featured on their website as a “Hero in Education” the following year.
She is Kodály trained and has completed her Master's of Music Education at CSU Fullerton where she mentors future music teachers and is a current adjunct faculty member. Betsy uses her expertise as a reviewer in the Visual and Performing Arts Framework for the California Learning Resource Network website for the California Department of Education. Last year the Orange County Music and Arts Administrators honored Betsy as 2010 Outstanding Arts Educator in Elementary/Vocal Music.
